GEOFEM is a leading satellite remote sensing consultancy firm that helps infrastructure stakeholders to:

  1. Monitor current and ongoing ground movements in areas of interest.

  2. Be alerted to potential issues before they become serious faults.

  3. Visualise the susceptibility of areas to geohazards such as landslides and subsidence.

About

Who We Are

GEOFEM is a leading provider of innovative earth observation, GIS, and remote sensing solutions. Our analysis is complemented by 20+ years of geotechnical engineering experience to interpret the data, and provide recommendations to maximise the safety of infrastructure across the globe.

The Infrastructure Challenge

The Safety and resilience of the built environment is currently under increased use.

$2,500

In Austrailia, it's estimated that swelling clays contribute to around $2,500 million in damages to infrastructure annually (Geotechnical Engineering Journal of the SEAGS & AGSSEA,2012)

2.5 Billion

The number of people exposed to subsidence risk could increase from 1.6 to 2.5 by 2040 (Nature Climate Change Journal, 2016).

1,150%

Landslides near Woking, England in December 2023 led to a reduction in service (BBC News) that cost South Western Rail around £100,000 per hour.

Proactive treatments for subsidence (such as resin injections) cost £1000 on average. Reactive treatments (such as piling) can cost around £12,500 (checkatrade.com), a 1,150% increase.

Solution

Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) uses satellite data to calculate movements of the ground over successive passes. Analysing a time series stack of images can provide outputs with millimetric accuracy. These results are then combined with our geotechnical engineering know-how to provide infrastructure stakeholders with actionable recommendations for the safety of their assets.

How it works

Step 1: Consultation

Discuss project requirements and objectives with our expert team.

Step 2: Identification of AOI

The area of interest is mapped out for assessment.

Step 3: Analysis & Interpretation

Step 4: Presentation and Visualisation

Outputs are represented on our accessible GIS platform for your convenience, along with recommendations for action.
